Self-presentation in the process of looking for a first job – workshops for students with migration experience at the School Complex in Kostomłoty
On 18 May 2026, workshops devoted to self-presentation in the process of looking for a first job were held at the School Complex in Kostomłoty. The meeting was addressed to students with migration experience who are preparing to enter the labour market, planning their first job interviews or considering their future career path.
The classes were organised as part of the project “Improving the wellbeing of the school community in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship”, one of the important elements of which is supporting young people in building self-confidence, social competences and readiness to actively participate in educational and professional life.
During the workshops, participants discussed what good self-presentation means and why it is important in contact with a future employer. Particular attention was paid to the situation of young people with migration experience, who often face not only typical challenges related to looking for their first job, but also language barriers, cultural differences and less familiarity with the principles of the Polish labour market.
First impression, communication and job interview
During the meeting, seventh-grade students analysed how to prepare for a job interview, how to talk about their strengths, interests and experiences, and how to answer basic recruitment questions. The importance of non-verbal communication, punctuality, appropriate appearance, personal culture and the way of introducing oneself in formal situations was also discussed.
The workshops were practical in nature. Participants practised short statements about themselves, learned how to organise information about their skills and reflected on how to present their educational, language, family or social experience as a resource that may be important to a future employer.
Supporting young people in entering the labour market
The meeting at the School Complex in Kostomłoty was also an opportunity to talk about the first steps in professional life: preparing a CV, looking for job offers, contacting an employer, and the importance of responsibility and commitment in the workplace. It was emphasised that a first job can be an important developmental experience, helping young people better understand their abilities and plan further education or career development.
For students with migration experience, this type of activity is particularly important. It helps them better understand the expectations of Polish employers, strengthens their sense of agency and shows that multilingualism, experience of living in different environments and the ability to adapt can be valuable assets on the labour market.
📌 Important: Workshops on self-presentation and first steps on the labour market support young people in building self-confidence, developing communication competences and preparing for conscious planning of their educational and professional future.
