A school where everyone belongs – staff training at Secondary School No. 1 in Pińczów
Language barriers, different life experiences and loneliness can make settling into a new school difficult. In Pińczów, we spoke with teachers about supporting young people with a migration background and building a classroom community where everyone feels they belong.
After the summer break, we resumed our series of training sessions for teachers across the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship who work with students from other countries. On 22 September 2026, we visited General Secondary School No. 1 in Pińczów to deliver anti-discrimination training for the teaching staff.
The school welcomes students from Poland and Ukraine. Working in this environment means taking account of young people’s different experiences, language skills and needs. During the session, we focused on practical ways to build positive relationships and create an atmosphere in which students feel safe and at ease.
Everyday situations, different perspectives
Sharing experiences was an important part of the training. Teachers discussed situations they encounter in their work and explored them together from different perspectives. We considered how to respond to difficulties arising from language and cultural barriers, and how to help students settle into a new environment.
We also devoted time to preventing exclusion and loneliness. Relationships remained at the heart of these discussions: the connection between teacher and student, mutual understanding and a sense of belonging to the class. Together, we explored ways to support young people in everyday school life.
Thank you to the staff of Secondary School No. 1 in Pińczów for taking part and sharing their experiences. Their contributions help us keep our training relevant to the real needs of schools.
